Col_Tubbs. The pats on the Mk4 is different from the Mk3 so you will end up with a new complete key. I picked up a new spare remote key for mine at about £30 but it cost a further £60 to have the key cut and program to the car. The local stealer was asking just short of £200 for the key & programing to the car.
Management light came on, took it to ford, and it was code P0490. Ford cleared the code and said it would need the inlet manifold replaced if the problem persisted (as the egr valve is combined into the inlet manifold on the mark iv mondeo). I also have the problem of hesitation, misfire, stutter at low revs, say 1400 - 2000.

The U1900 DTC code is usually caused by diagnostics. This DTC code can be ignored. Even cars without any problems do often have this code. The P0599-71 DTC code refers to an electronic thermostat. As far as I know Ford did not use electronic thermostats for the Focus MK2/MK2.5.
When the garage (independent not dealer) done the same all sorts of codes appeared. I don't know much about code readers but maybe yours isn't going deep enough into the memory to pick any codes up. Out of the blue my motor is losing boost and garage came up with fault P0490 EGR Control Circuit High and suggested I need a new EGR valve, my handheld tester comes up with P0131 O2 Sensor Low Bank 1 Sensor 1 and P0299 Turbo under boost.
